Gurung calls for immediate Central intervention... GMCC has no authority to withdraw the strike in the Hills-- Bimal

SNS, DARJEELING, 31 JULY 2017: Chief of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJMM), Bimal Gurung, today said the Centre must 'immediately' intervene in the crisis in the Hills to save it from getting out of hand. He also warned that his party will take up 'other options' if the Central government fails to do something quick.
In a press conference at Patleybaas he called here, the GJMM boss refuted allegations that the Maoists from Nepal had been supporting the Gorkhaland agitators in the Hills.`Because of the state government and the police, the situation in Darjeeling has become worse than Kashmir. The police are terrorising the Hill people. The centre should immediately step in, otherwise the public will start thinking negatively against the central government," he said,
According to him, the Gorkhaland Movement Coordination Committee (GMCC) has no authority to withdraw the indefinite strike in the Hills. 'It is in the people's hands now If they want, the strike will open, if they don't, it wont, he said.
Meanwhile, in a public meeting during the day here, GJMM leader R P Waiba said that party leaders are doing their work in their own way. 'The leaders are working and are in talks with many parties in Delhi,' he said,
Mr Waiba added that some political parties in the Hills are taking advantage of the situation and are trying to come out more powerful. "Thins is totally not fair, because this time, the public will not forgive anyone who cheats," he said.
"I think our PM Modi, has forgotten what he had promised us before the general elections_ While he may have used us a vote bank, the public still has faith in him and they are waiting for the Central government to give them a positive response to their demand for Gorkhaland." he added
